Tides result from the complex interaction of gravitational and centrifugal forces between the Earth, Moon, and Sun. On most coastlines around the world, there are two tidal cycles each day, each lasting exactly 12 hours and 24 minutes. The Portugieser Yacht Club Moon & Tide displays the expected times of the next high and low tides on the subdial at 6 o’clock. This is made possible by a special gear train that translates the steady rhythm of hours into the ever-shifting sequence of tidal changes. At 12 o’clock, a double moon phase display has been enhanced to indicate spring and neap tides, giving insight into the current tide height. Spring tides—particularly high—occur during full and new moons. The 18-carat red gold case, blue dial, gold hands, and solid gold appliqués emphasize the nautical character of this timepiece. The IWC-manufactured 82835 calibre features a Pellaton winding system made of durable ceramic components and provides a 60-hour power reserve.
