IWC created the Portofino collection in 1984, named after the idyllic village on the Italian coast, a popular holiday destination for the international jet-set in the 1950s and 1960s. Since then, Portofino watches have infused Mediterranean relaxation with a touch of glamour and elegance. The Portofino Automatic Moonphase is the first Portofino watch to feature a 40mm case diameter with a moonphase display. Until now, this popular complication was only available on 45mm or 37mm models. This watch features a classic fine steel case. Sparkling in the middle of a night sky, its gold moon enhances the stunning contrast between the silvered dial and its gold-plated appliques and hands. This casually elegant timepiece is accompanied by a hand-painted brown alligator strap.
