The 44 mm case is crafted from Ceratanium® – an innovative material developed by IWC that combines the lightness of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic. The black dial features a distinctive grained texture, created by stamping the brass with a specialised tool, echoing the technical aesthetics of Formula 1™ race cars. Black triangular hands with Super-LumiNova®-coated edges ensure excellent readability in all lighting conditions. PETRONAS green accents add a dynamic touch, reflecting the team’s signature colours.
SPRIN-g PROTECT® Technology: Engineered for Extreme Impact
At the heart of this timepiece lies the patented SPRIN-g PROTECT® system, developed by IWC’s Experimental Engineering Team. This mechanism uses a cantilever spring made of Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG), an amorphous material with greater elasticity than traditional metals. The spring protects the movement by absorbing shocks transmitted through the case, enabling the watch to withstand accelerations exceeding 30,000 g. For this limited edition, the spring is coated with PETRONAS green Super-LumiNova®, creating a distinctive glow in the dark.

The Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL is powered by IWC’s in-house automatic calibre 32101. This movement provides an impressive 120-hour (five-day) power reserve, delivering consistent accuracy over extended periods. The plates, bridges, and rotor are all blacked-out to match the watch’s all-black aesthetic. A tinted sapphire caseback reveals the movement and features Toto Wolff’s signature – adding a personal and exclusive touch to each piece.
